Every single problem greeks have basically roots from "greek pride". All greek governments have spent ridiculously excessive money on public services so that every greek citizen can enjoy a rich and glorious life as same as those living in rich countries for the sake of nationalistic pride, even though their economy was and is incapable.
It is the "greek pride" that makes greeks believe that only "culture and history" matter for a nation. That's why instead of improving their all life sectors and inventing new technology products for exports, greeks spend all their time only for bragging their past culture and history.
Even greeks ridiculously feel much more proud of producing the so-called "the best olive oil" than germans with high-tech engines or the japanese with robots. And somehow greeks feel satisfied enough with that.

Whenever you show a sign of poverty in greece, greeks always reply "those poor persons are not greeks. they are gypsies or albanian/bulgarian/syrian/afghan immigrants. It's impossible for a greek to be poor. greece always have first-world-country economy. greeks builded civilization when you all were still hanging on trees."
I mean, how will greeks, and especially diaspora greeks, solve their economic problems when they always think that greece were always a rich country with zero economic problem?
very similar to diaspora armenians' mentality tho
